The rose garden is the culmination of many years’
labor of love. Many years ago Dan, who delights in
roses, stumbled across a 130-year-old rose named
Kronprincessin Viktoria, named after the Crown
Princess of Prussia and the German Empire. That
caused him to wonder how many varieties of roses
had some variation of Victoria in their name. He was
able to find over 50 varieties in the literature, and he
decided to collect as many of them as he could.
That has been a challenging quest, as many of them
are Old Garden or Heritage roses that are no longer
available commercially. Further complicating matters,
some roses are known by more than one name. But so
far Dan has located over 30 varieties, with names such
as Victoria, Victorian Memory, Queen Victoria, and
Victorian (and of course Kronprincessin Viktoria),
along with many more.
Several years ago, he laid out this beautiful formal
garden to share these magnificent blossoms—what
Dan refers to as his “Victoria collection.” Come enjoy
the grace and tranquility of this peaceful garden with
a special someone, while enjoying a glass of one of
Victorianbourg’s wonderful wines.
